How to Make Moving Easier with Colored Tape

Moving can be exciting — but let’s be honest, it can also be overwhelming. Between boxes, labels, and endless checklists, staying organized is key. One of our favorite ways to make your move smoother? Color-coding your moving boxes with tape!

Whether you’re moving across Carmel or to a new home in Indianapolis or Central Indiana, this simple system will save you time and stress.

Step-by-Step: How to Color Code Your Move

  1. Assign a color to each room.
For example, blue for the kitchen, green for the living room, yellow for bedrooms, and pink for bathrooms.
  2. Label every box with the right color tape.
Add the room name and a brief description of contents on the box.
  3. Create a simple color key.
List each color with its corresponding room. Tape this guide to the front door so movers or helpers know exactly where to place each box.
  4. Add a color-coded label to each door inside your new home.
That way, everyone knows which color belongs to which room.

Why It Works

Color-coding helps movers (and friends!) unload boxes directly into the right rooms, saving you hours of rearranging later. It’s especially helpful when moving into multi-level homes or large properties common throughout Carmel and suburban Indianapolis.

Pro Tip:

Keep one box labeled “Open First” for essentials like toilet paper, towels, cleaning supplies, and snacks.

Moving doesn’t have to feel chaotic — a little color and planning go a long way!
