320+ Teachers Shared Their Classroom Wishlists With Us This Summer. Here's What That Told Us.

Before Stacy Barry ever handed a buyer their keys, she stood in front of a classroom.

Fresh out of Indiana University with an education degree, teaching was Stacy's first career, long before real estate. That season of her life never left her. It's part of why, every single year, supporting teachers isn't just something The Stacy Barry Team does. It's something Stacy feels.

So this summer, The Stacy Barry Team ran a simple teacher appreciation giveaway: drop your Amazon classroom wishlist in the comments, we'll give them exposure, and we'll raffle off four (4) $250 Amazon gift cards. Easy entry, good cause, back-to-school season. We hoped for a nice response.

We were not prepared for what actually happened.

Quick facts: More than 320 teachers commented with a classroom wishlist. They represented at least a dozen states, from Indiana and Texas to Florida, Tennessee, California, Washington, New York, and Ontario, Canada. Grade levels ranged from Pre-K through high school, and included special education, school counseling, and school nursing roles. The most common theme across the comments: Title I schools, zero classroom budget, and teachers paying out of pocket for basic supplies.

Why a Real Estate Team Ran a Teacher Appreciation Giveaway

The comments kept coming. And coming.

By the time the post settled, more than 320 teachers had shared their wishlists. Not just from Hamilton County. Not just from Indiana. Teachers from Texas, Florida, Tennessee, California, Washington, New York, Ontario, and dozens of states in between found their way to our page and said, here's what I need.

Kindergarten teachers. First-year teachers who just walked the stage at graduation. Veteran educators starting year 22, 27, even 34. Special education teachers. School counselors. A school nurse covering three campuses with a single tiny budget. Art teachers, music teachers, Spanish teachers, science teachers moving grade levels for the first time in a decade.

One comment came from a mom, quietly posting her 22-year-old son's wishlist because he was too humble to post it himself. He'd just landed his first teaching job. Another came from three boys who spent their summer mowing lawns and pulling weeds to start a library at their school, and their teacher was too proud of them not to share it. A school counselor in upstate New York explained that she became a counselor because she never had a safe adult at school growing up, and she wanted every kid who walked through her door to know they weren't alone.

Teacher after teacher mentioned the same things. Title I schools. Zero classroom budget. Buying their own glue sticks, pencils, and whiteboards, year after year, out of pocket. Grateful for even a five-dollar contribution.
